Road trip #2

We took another road trip the other weekend, this time down to Portland. Carly, the newest addition to the family, was visiting the city for open heart surgery. Since we haven't had a chance to meet her yet, we thought it was an opportune time to see her and provide support to Derrik, Sara and Bailey.

Devin and I decided to leave on Friday around the kids' bedtime so they could sleep on the way down. We achieved our goal and Devin enjoy getting some shuteye too - thank goodness for XM satelite radio to help time pass more quickly! While our plan of having the kids sleep in the car seemed smart at the time, it ended up backfiring when we arrived at the hotel. They were wide awake, energized and ready to take on the day...at midnight! Learned our lesson this time.

Dylan was very curious about Carly and couldn't wait to give her his gift. He seemed quite concerned about her "boo boos". I think that it was tough for him not to be able to hold and cuddle with her. There were several occasions when I really wanted to know what was going through his little mind.

It amazes me how quickly babies can rebound and heal. Just five days after her massive surgery, she was discharged to go home. We hope she continues to recover remarkably and can't wait to see her again.
