Road Trip!

Mia went on her first road trip last week. Devin took a few days off, so we decided to venture south to Portland. What's normally a 2 1/2 - 3 hour drive turned into 4. The extra time accounted for a lunch and feeding stop. Dylan did great, but Mia wasn't thrilled with being strapped into her car seat (which she didn't like to start with) for that length of time. We were well stocked with DVDs, snacks, etc - but the one thing we forgot were ear plugs. I guess we won't be doing any extended driving excursions with Mia in the next few months.

Tip for families with kids when traveling: Stay at an Embassy Suites Hotel. We originally stayed in the Benson downtown and later checked into Embassy Suites when we extended the trip. While it's not "luxurious", the hotel is super convenient and such a steal with all the extra amenities - extra room w/ pullout queen bed, pool, complementary snack time (aka "happy hour" for adults with beer, wine and hard-a) from 5:30-7pm and daily breakfast. Plus, most people staying at the Embassy are families, so I suspect that they are much more understanding of pitter patter of feet and the other noises from children.
