Aloha
Our Trip to Maui didn't get off to a great start. It began with a lot of turbulence - not in the air, but instead in our stomach. On early Monday morning, I awoke feeling sick with all symptoms indicating a stomach flu - so ill that I thought I was going to have to visit the ER. Dylan had gotten sick on Friday, so I'd imagine that he shared his nasty bug. Destined to get to Hawaii, we proceeded with heading to the airport on Monday and learned that Grandma Marcia was also down for the count. That would make 3 of 5 of us traveling to Hawaii battling the stomach flu. The airplane ride was rough and especially difficult for Devin who had to care for (sick) Dylan pretty much the entire flight - which he claims to be the worst airplane flight of his life :(. And unfortunately it didn't get any better when we got to Hawaii. By the third day of the trip, the count was 5 of 5 with the flu. We were pretty much quarantined in our rooms for the first few days - thank goodness for the great condo accommodations that we had at the Westin Villas.
By Thursday, the family was on the rebound to getting healthy. From that day forward, we had a fantastic time swimming at the Pirate's kiddie pool, building sand castles at the beach, shopping in Lahaina, and enjoying dining out at a few local restaurants (Sansei's, Mama's Fish House, IO). Dylan also developed a unique fascination for migos" (aka flamingos), parrots and geese at the Westin Hotel - so much so that grandpa had to take him back several times during the trip to satisfy his pleas to see them.
Dylan especially enjoyed spending every day with his "bapas" - grandma and grandpa. Grandpa and Dylan became best buds as they were always the first to wake up in the morning (5-6am), get breakfast, and take a walk.
